What makes a greenhouse comparison useful

A useful greenhouse comparison is not a row of star ratings. It should normalize product information that manufacturers describe differently and make missing data visible. A nominal 8×12 greenhouse may have a meaningfully different actual footprint, ridge height, door opening, glazing construction or factory vent package from another product sold under the same size label.

GreenhouseMatch therefore compares the exact catalog configuration, not an entire brand as if every model were interchangeable. Where a specification is not available from the cited source for that exact configuration, the table shows N/A instead of borrowing a value from another size or product generation.

Dimensions before features

Physical fit is the first comparison. Actual exterior dimensions matter for a prepared base, fence clearance, setbacks, paths and the simple question of whether the greenhouse fits the available site. Floor area is useful for capacity, while peak height affects tall crops and air volume. Sidewall or eave height is shown only when that exact value is available from the current sourced record; it is not inferred from photographs or neighboring models.

How to read glazing differences

The comparison separates glazing material from glazing construction and thickness because “polycarbonate greenhouse” can describe very different assemblies. Twin-wall, multiwall and clear single-panel sections can affect insulation, light diffusion and durability differently. A single material label is not enough to describe the envelope.

The comparison does not convert every glazing description into a universal thermal-performance score. Factory ventilation is a starting point, not proof of capacity

Roof vents, side vents and automatic openers are shown separately where the product record contains them. A model with more factory vents may require fewer add-ons, but vent count alone does not establish natural-ventilation capacity because the actual opening area is often not published.

Published snow and wind information needs context

For a structural-weather decision, use the heavy-snow guide or high-wind guide before treating any displayed manufacturer number as meaningful for the site.

Weather claims are especially easy to compare incorrectly. A manufacturer may publish a number only for a specific model, anchoring method, configuration or test condition. Another manufacturer may publish no numerical value at all. GreenhouseMatch displays the documented manufacturer claim and evidence wording without converting it into a local structural approval.

“N/A” means the value is not available in the current sourced record for that exact configuration. It does not mean the greenhouse has zero capacity or that the feature is absent. Before purchase, verify the current manufacturer documentation, anchoring instructions and applicable local requirements for the installation site.

Why price is not a normalized comparison row

Retail price is deliberately excluded from this side-by-side table at the present catalog coverage. Some brands publish direct or suggested-retail prices, while others primarily route buyers to dealers whose prices, promotions, freight and regional availability vary. Showing a mostly incomplete price row would make the comparison look more precise than the underlying data.

Instead, use the Project Cost Calculator with the current kit price or quote you are actually seeing. That also makes it possible to compare delivery, foundation, climate equipment and installation costs rather than treating sticker price as the whole project.

Independent comparison rules

Commercial relationships do not change the rows, values or order of the comparison. The tool does not give a product extra prominence because its merchant route is commercially useful. Each selected product receives the same normalized fields, the same missing-data treatment and a link to its cited manufacturer or distributor source.

The comparison also does not manufacture a universal “best greenhouse” score. A tall, heavily documented polycarbonate model may be a strong cold-season candidate but a poor fit for a small site. A lighter kit may be easier to assemble and more appropriate for another project. The value is in exposing those tradeoffs so the buyer can decide which ones matter.

Records are built from manufacturer product pages, manuals or manufacturer/distributor technical documentation and carry a verification date internally. Missing values remain missing. Conflicting published specifications are recorded rather than silently reconciled.
